Most Iconic Comic Book Objects

Published by skidrowe at 12:53 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Just something I was thinking about today:  What are the most iconic objects in all of comicdom?  What tangible non-living things most strongly represent all that we love about comics?  I’m not talking about insider stuff like the cosmic cube.  And costumes don’t count.  I’m thinking of truly iconic objects that transcend into the mainstream.

#1 on the list

Captain America’s shield, for sure.  Thor’s hammer is a no brainer.  Some piece of bat-equipment deserves to be on the list: maybe the batmobile or a batarang.

After that, I don’t know.  Green Lantern’s ring?  Yes.   A boxing glove arrow?   Maybe.  Wonder Woman’s golden lasso probably fits the bill.

The ring is the thing

Superman and Spider-Man, two of the biggest of the big, don’t really have anything for the list.  Spidey-fans would probably argue for his web-shooters, but they just aren’t grand enough.  They aren’t visible when he’s in costume.  No non-fanboy would even recognize them.

Hulk’s got nothing, unless you count torn-up purple pants.  Out of all the X-Men, the best I could come up with would be Cyclop’s visor.  Since FF2 hit theaters, the Silver Surfer’s board may qualify.

What am I missing?  Post a comment below to add to the list.
